The central objective of UIM Aviation pilots is to provide flight service, utilizing UIMA aircraft, in support of church-planting ministries. UIM’s typical flights transport missionaries and national pastors, haul building supplies and groceries, and provide medevacs for the ill and injured. A secondary task of a UIMA pilot, is to carry out maintenance on our aircraft under the supervision of the of the director of maintenance. New pilots joining the program may be expected to base in Mexico or the United States, depending on the needs at their time of their joining. For those assigned to Mexico, Spanish study will be required.

REQUIREMENTS

PILOT REQUIREMENTS

  • Commercial certificate with instrument rating

  • Minimum of 500 hours

  • A&P certificate

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Good Christian testimony

  • Local church membership

  • The equivalent of one year of Bible training

  • A desire to minister cross-culturally

  • Training and experience in position sought

After a new pilot meets all the requirements, the next step is rigorous on-the-field training. They need to learn the dynamics of each airstrip in the mountains, understand the different procedures in Mexico, and know the aspects of our specific aircraft.  This training period can last up to a year as they observe different weather patterns.  It takes years for a missionary bush pilot to develop skills to land a plane on the side of the mountain. We are dedicated to training the next generation of missionary pilots.
