Medical Clinic Impacts Lives
On one of UIMA pilot's, Jasson Farmer, trips to a Cora village in the mountains, the local pastor asked him if it was possible to have a few dentists and doctors come and help the people. We began thinking about how we could meet this vital need. The best way possible was to organize a clinic ourselves for the first time. With the help of our co-workers in the States, we began publicizing the need for doctors and dentists who would be willing to make a short-term trip to Mexico.
A nurse practitioner, her daughter, and another couple from Shadow Mountain Community Church in San Diego, CA answered the call. We also had another doctor and dentist from Mexico who would be joining us as well. Whenever we break ground and open a new ministry, we seem to face unexplainable opposition. This time was no different. Just a few days before the clinic one of the doctors and one of the other pilots came down with COVID. It crossed our minds to postpone the clinic, but so much was already in motion that we kept on going with the momentum we had, and we are very thankful we did. Our team was much smaller than anticipated, but everyone was extremely flexible, had great attitudes, and worked well together. We are so thankful for the people the Lord brought to serve alongside us.
It took seven plane loads to transfer people to and from the village. The doctor helped over forty people and the dentist filled countless cavities and pulled several teeth. An older Cora man from another village traveled four hours on a mule to be able to have his teeth worked on. We even had a patient in the middle of the night that had to be airlifted by Jasson in the morning! So thankful we were already there! The people were very grateful for this chance to receive medical/dental care.
One of the gentlemen from the States, along with a long-time Ethnos 360 missionary friend of ours, were able to share the Gospel in both Spanish and the Cora language. It was such a blessing to everyone to serve the Cora people in this practical way.
A few weeks after the clinic, Jasson flew back into the village and asked about the young lady that he had medevac’d. He found out that she is doing much better now and is back in the village. When we flew the young lady to Tepic, she "gave her life to Christ" and soon after that began feeling better. It is so exciting that not only were people healed physically but spiritually, as well. God is doing some amazing things with the Cora people, and it is exciting to have the opportunity to be involved.
The clinic went very smoothly, even though it was the first one we have planned. We would love to make this a regular endeavor and will be on the lookout for doctors and dentists who desire to make an impact. Please contact us if you are interested. Together we can impact eternity!
