When it rains . . . — UIM Aviation

When it rains ... there are clouds. (Note: all meteorological insights in this edition are free.) Clouds can prove to be a significant obstacle to us. Our destinations are often small airstrips, tucked away in a mountainous region, and they lack electronic guidance systems. Consequently, we cannot descend through the clouds to a landing in the mountains. We must see the airstrip to fly the approach.

It is rainy season here. Yesterday morning we were ten minutes from our mountain destination, and this was our view:

So, I was praying that God would once again provide a way to get down. Many of you pray regularly for us, some maybe even yesterday. On board I had an indigenous Tepehuan couple returning to their village after receiving medical care in the city. Ten minutes away a missionary couple was waiting to be picked up and brought back to the city. They had spent the last week and a half in the village, considering whether it were the location God would have them move to next. But, if these clouds continued, there would be no landing - at least, not for now. We would have to burn expensive fuel to divert and wait out the clouds or else return to the city.

We covered the last ten minutes to our destination quickly. Then, after crossing the final ridge, hidden somewhere below the cloud deck, we were met with this:

The clouds broke up into a ragged hole right over our destination village. Some might call that chance.

We circled down through the hole and landed right on schedule. We unloaded our passengers and luggage and loaded up the new passengers and luggage for the next leg. Before climbing in, I took one more look around the sky. Guess what? The hole was gone:

Just that quickly, the hole was closed again. Some would call that chance. Some would be wrong... again.

Agur unleashes a barrage of rhetorical questions in Prov. 30:4: "Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name or His son’s name? Surely you know!"

Many of you know both Him and His Son, don't you? That is why you pray. Thank you! And because He is who He is, He answers those prayers.
