From Train Tracks to a Second Chance

Odilón, a young Tarahumara teen who has not yet placed his faith in Jesus, left home around the age of 13. Before leaving, he memorized his older sister’s phone number—his sister is a professing believer. At the time, his family had no idea where he had gone.

Fast forward two to three years to this summer: Odilón and a group of friends decided to go train surfing—riding a train hobo-style. When the train lurched, Odilón lost his grip and fell. One of his legs was severed below the knee, and his other foot was badly mangled. We are deeply grateful his life was spared—his friends rescued him, and someone quickly applied tourniquets to both legs.

He remembered his sister’s phone number, and by God’s grace, she still had the same number. She was contacted, and through her, the local missionary—who is married to Odilón’s cousin—was reached.

Long story short, our UIM Aviation pilot, Brent Dodd, was then called to help. He flew Odilón’s sister to be with him during his surgery. Once Odilón was stable post-surgery, Brent flew both of them to a city where he will receive care from a Christian ministry with medical personnel on staff. Please continue to pray for Odilón’s salvation.

Thank you for the incredible privilege of serving alongside you to share the hope of Jesus Christ throughout Mexico. Your faithful prayers and generous support make it possible for the UIM Aviation team to bring Christ’s love and practical help to those in need. Be encouraged—every prayer lifted and every gift given is making an eternal difference. One day, the impact of your faithfulness will shine in ways we can only imagine.
