Huichol Baptisms

The story of the Huichol believers started over forty years ago with Jose Lopez, a dedicated follower of Christ. This Huichol man faithfully hiked to unevangelized Huichol villages deep in the mountains of Mexico for decades until his knees gave away. This is when UIM Aviation stepped in and began flying this amazing man of God into the mountains on a regular basis, and we have seen God use him to reach his own people with great success. The Huichol people have been tremendously responsive to hearing God’s Word and numerous people have trusted Christ. Along with this newfound faith often came persecution from the community in the form of prohibiting Christian children from attending school, withholding water from them, and casting them out from society. This resulted in Huichol Christians fleeing their homes and forming a new community, La Bendicion, closer to the larger town in their state.

La Bendicion has become the place where new believers travel to yearly in order to be baptized. The mature Huichol believers open their arms wide to welcome the new believers who desire to be baptized. UIMA has been honored every year to fly Huichols from the mountains to the location of the baptisms and are included in the celebrations. This year eighteen Huichol believers were baptized by Jose Lopez, the older gentleman who has been evangelizing since he was a young man.

We praise the Lord for the work that He is doing among the Huichol and their responsiveness to Him. And we are so honored that we could play a small part in what God is doing in Central Mexico.
